TISSUE DYNAMICS
PB.20260201.ANITAnita Liao 廖珍頤
Illustration and cover design for Anita Liao's PhD thesis at Leiden University. The research uses immunofluorescence imaging to study how fibroblasts and T cells interact with tumors.
Anita described her fluorescence images as a place where science becomes soft, vibrant, and full of expression. I looked at her microscopy data and saw an underwater scene. The glowing tumor spheroid became a blossom. The activated fibroblasts stretching through the extracellular matrix became seagrass. T cells became organisms drifting through deep water. I painted the illustration using Procreate, translating the microscope's view into liquid into an actual sea.
The same illustration carries across the thesis cover and defense invitation card. The layout stays minimal to let the image do the work.
